Hi there,
Nice to have you dropping by.
We at IndoLinks always wanted to do a site on Rajasthan,
presenting it in a different way - focussing on the interesting
and unusual aspects of this colourful and vibrant state... rather
than reel out drab historical data (such as, "The north wing
of this fort was built in the year so-and-so by Maharaja
so-and-so. Later, his son Maharaja so-and-so added the western
portion between the years so-and-so,.....").
And we seized the opportunity provided by Ashoka
Holidays. Frankly, we went much beyond the client's brief...
but well, no one's complaining - except maybe, Ashoka Holidays
finance controller ;)
The Rajasthan Diary
is a fictitious travelogue of the all-American
Mike and his Indian-born (but raised in USA) wife,
Sonia - on their first visit to India. Mike did most of
the writing with inputs from his wife.
You
will find that all destinations have a calendar with the number of
suggested days mentioned. This is ONLY an
indication. The actual number of days would depend on:
- Your specific interests and the time that you can
spare.
You may not like to go to the various temples that we covered
on Day 4 in Jaipur. So you save a day. But, if you also go for
excursions to Samode and Sariska you may need to add more days.
- And, your touring circuit.
For instance, we have mentioned 1-2 days at Ajmer. We have
assumed that you would reach in the afternoon from say, Jaipur,
take a look around and halt for the night there. The next
morning you may visit Pushkar on your way to say, Udaipur.
Now, if you were to reach Ajmer early in the morning (or the
night before) you may be able to take in both Ajmer and Pushkar
during the day and leave in the evening itself.
Ashoka
Holidays commissioned a photographer and I too delved into my
personal album of my Rajasthan travels for some rare original
photographs - like this hilarious painting on one of the houses in
Jaisalmer. Most of the photographs (including the one on the
right) are thumbnails, which you can click and enlarge for a
closer look.
You can explore this diary either by clicking on the tabs on
your right or the text links on the bottom of every page. You
could also use the Diary Index.
We hope you enjoy this site as much as we enjoyed creating it.
Do post your comments in the Visitor's
Feedback .
Sincerely,
